Transcantábrico was inaugurated in 1983 in Leon, renovated in 2000, and then completely overhauled in 2011 to become El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo, one of the most exclusive and luxurious trains in the world. Since then, regular & painstaking renovations maintain high standards. Being designed for a narrow-gauge railway, El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo travels through otherwise inaccessible terrain. This enables you to enjoy nature in all its splendour, from high mountains to the Cantabrian coast, passing through valleys and along riverbanks. An unforgettable trip full of glamour, scenery, culture, and beauty.

Together with the suites, they create an authentic five-star hotel on rails, with amenities that meet the most demanding of expectations.
The entire train, both rooms and common areas, is connected internally allowing free transit of all passengers.
Grand Luxury Suite
Spacious suites decorated in wood, distributed in a living room, bedroom, equipped with its own bathtub or shower, and adorned with exclusive details.
Its ample space allows you to enjoy a comfortable double bed (1.50 m x 1.90 m) or twin single beds (0.75 m x 1.90 m), wardrobe, luggage rack, desk, safe and minibar, as well as the most advanced comfort with LED screens, music tuner, adjustable air conditioning, multimedia computer with free Internet connection and interior telephone.
They also have a living room, with a convertible sofa-bed, large windows and a spacious, comfortable en suite bathroom with hairdryer and a welcome pack with quality items.
Lounge cars
The lounges of El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo are original Pullman (sleeper) cars from 1923, authentic jewels of the historical-railway heritage, specially decorated and set for this train, including a glass-panoramic room.
In these common areas á la carte breakfast and lunch or dinner are prepared by our chef and served daily. In its dining rooms you can taste the best gastronomy of the area. The bar is available anytime you need it.
In the lounges you will find the national and international press, tablets, video library, library and board games. You can relax in the Panoramic Lounge, have an aperitif in the Tea Room or enjoy a lively evening in our Pub car, where you can enjoy live music and live performances every night.

Life on board
Imagine a luxury train where you can enjoy and relax for eight days and seven nights (or four days and three nights with the new micro-trips), turning it into your lounge, means of transportation, meeting place, restaurant, bedroom or dance floor. In which every day you will wake up in a different place, with unique landscapes from the comfort of your suite or any of our evocative lounges.
We recommend wearing comfortable clothes and shoes during the day when you are visiting different places. In the evening, you can opt for a more formal attire.
After dinner, you can enjoy an evening of leisure. Every night, there are live performances or dancing on board. You can also choose to have a more quiet drink in another one of the lounge cars, go for a walk around town or return to the privacy of your suite.
To help you rest, after the end of the day, the train shall remain standing at the station during the night.
The trip in El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo is also a tour of the best gastronomy of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country, regions with a world-renowned culinary tradition.
Our exquisite á la carte breakfasts are complemented by our waiters' personalised service. Local specialties are present during the trip, making each day start differently and originally also at the table.
For lunch and dinner, the on-board food and drinks will be offered at the elegant train lounges, with a selection of food from the best restaurants. An appetising culinary proposal, served with the best wines of the most popular Denominations of origin (D.O.) of northern Spain.
